In 1999, after the residents of San Marino approved a bond measure to pay for updates and construction at each of the four campuses, the SMSF launched the very successful Race to the Finish Campaign to "furnish" the newly constructed buildings.

The Foundation contributed $2.5 million to the District to:

  • Furnish classrooms with bookcases, computers, furniture and equipment at all four campuses.
  • Equip the science classrooms and labs at all four campuses.
  • Purchase and install lighting, sound equipment and other furnishings at Huntington Middle School, San Marino High School, and Carver Elementary School auditoriums.

In 2004, the Foundation launched the very successful Athletics Campaign to update and improve our sports facilities. The renovations include
»The track and football/soccer field of Titan Stadium
»The baseball and softball fields at the High School
»The locker rooms at the High School

The athletics renovations benefit both the school athletes as well as other City of San Marino residents who use the facilities for City wide track and field meets, AYSO soccer, SMCAA flag football and basketball and San Marino National Little League games and practices, to name a few.

In 2004, the Foundation launched a fundraising initiative for the Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) Professional Development Program at the two elementary schools. The unique VAPA program focused on enhancing the teachers' instructional skills so they could integrate meaningful arts instruction directly into the core curriculum of language arts, social studies, science and math.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the Foundation met its VAPA funding goal a year earlier than targeted!
